Imma and Mario Caporaso established a humble continental deli in 1972 on St Bernard's Rd, Rostrevor. They were committed to building a business based on friendly, personalised service and a range of quality produce such as cheeses and smallgoods. Successfully trading on these core strengths, son John took Mercato to the next level. From a no-frills small corner store emerged the Italian food empire that exists today on 625 Lower North East Road, Campbelltown. 

John and his team aim to be Italy in Adelaide. No stone is left unturned in the quest to source authentic, quality local and Italian produce from family-run businesses just like Mercato, many of whom have become family friends. With innovation and education a key message, a visit to Mercato is an experience in discovery.

Dealing with a plethora of fine purveyors of Italian food and drink, John opened his Little Black Book of contacts, and together Mercato and Phil Hoffmann Travel have created Food Lover’s Italy. This unique experience showcases food and drink as varied as chocolate, smallgoods, pastries, hazelnuts, cheese truffles, pizza and wine in Piedmont – one of Italy’s prized gastronomic regions. Topped with Milan and Turin, and tailed with Florence, plus Rome, Italy’s Eternal city, this unique tour offers a bevy of fine and exclusive inclusions. This experience will suit any bon vivant!
