Home to four and a half million people, Santiago is in every sense of the phrase, a huge city. With dazzling skyscrapers, busy streets and the buzz of ceaseless movement, it strikingly defies the serene landscape that surrounds it. It is this size and energy that combines to produce a vibrant and exciting destination.

Be sure to pay a visit to Plaza de Armas, Chile’s former city centre that is steeped in history and holds many of the city’s public events. It is a hive of activity where you can enjoy a bite to eat or an ice cream (a Chilean favourite) while enjoying the many street performances and watching locals go about their business. On your way home take a stroll past the presidential palace La Moneda, or, if you are an early bird, don’t miss the changing of the guard that occurs every second day at 10am on weekdays and 11am on weekends. The Park Forestal and its flea market are also a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike.
