The perpetually snowcapped peaks of the Andes, the desolate beauty of Patagonia, the rhythm of the Tango filling the vibrant streets, the hearty and exotic meals, the cultural explosion that is Buenos Aires and of course the deep history – Argentina is a country that enjoys a fascinating dynamism just waiting to be discovered.
Arguably Argentina’s greatest contribution to the world is the passionate music and dance of the Tango. You’ll find Milongas (a place where tango enthusiasts gather to dance) and theatres all over the city. Avoid the performances in La Boca which are tango shows targeted at tourists, and go in search of something a little more authentic and organic for a mesmerising experience that you’ll never forget. Be prepared for a late night however, with majority of the best dancers hitting the floor between 11pm and 1am!
Argentina’s other great passion is of course soccer or football. Games are played year-round so you should have no problems finding a match to see but beware, with raw passion comes high emotion, and rivalry can at times be extreme, if not downright heated!
Conveniently, US Dollars are usable in lieu of the Peso almost everywhere in Buenos Aires at a rate of 1:1, making life easier if you have recently been or plan on visiting North America while you are in the Americas.
The southern region of Patagonia is just as unmissable and a journey to witness its splendor is a must for anyone visiting Argentina. Rolling green plains, sapphire-blue waters, golden rays of sun and snowcapped peaks combine to make this region one of breathtaking beauty. There are plenty of tour options available to take in the beauty of Patagonia, from trekking or mountain biking through the vast terrain, canoeing the lakes and streams side by side with glaciers or simply waking up to views of nature’s finest work. For those with more extreme bones in their bodies, mountain climbing, scaling glaciers and white water rafting are just a few of the activities that the region has to offer. With the chance to also witness rare wildlife or share in the unique lifestyle of its regional locals, Patagonia is certainly one of Argentina’s must see destinations.
