Kuşadasi is a lovely port built along the shores of a glittering bay. The terraced town overlooks the most beautiful inlet of the Aegean Sea and seems to have been created purely for the delight of vacationers. The surroundings furnish the occasion to admire some of the most qualified and interesting archaeological sites in all of Turkey - from Ephesus to Priene, Meletus and Colophon. Among the other old buildings of the city there is the Öküz Mehmet Paşa Caravanserai, Kaleiçi Mosque and the city walls.

The real reason that most visit this resort town however is to witness the ancient city of Ephesus. The grandest and best-preserved classical city on the eastern Mediterranean, Ephesus is one of the most magnificent places in the world to get a real feel for what it was like in ancient Roman times. You can almost hear the chariots wheels roll down the gorgeous white marble roads with deep grooves created by the wheels thousands of years before.

Stroll around the countless ruins and transport yourself back 4,000 years ago by gladiators' chariot wheels and countless ancient ruins. Walk along cobble stoned pathways towards the Magnesia Gate, tour the Odeum, the famous Library of Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theatre. Explore the city where the Gospel of John is rumoured to have been written and St John’s Basilica. The House of Virgin Mary can be visited from Ephesus and is said to be the place where Mary spent her last days.
