Settled in Austria’s picturesque lakes district, Salzburg is best known as the home of Mozart and The Sound of Music. With many architectural and historical landmarks worthy of a visit, it is the UNESCO World Heritage listed old town with its magnificent Baroque architecture that is a charming highlight.

Not to be missed is Hohensalzburg Castle; looming protectively over the city. The courtyard offers spectacular views down over Salzburg and its surrounds.

Visit Mozart’s birthplace and residence; explore Salzburg Cathedral where Mozart was baptised and worked as resident organist for some time or wander the impressive gardens of Mirabell Palace.

Enjoy one of many classical concerts; venture to the nearby Alps and go hiking or skiing or take a Sound of Music tour to see many of the locations and landscapes where the popular musical was filmed.

A visit in November or December provides the opportunity to visit the delightful Christmas Markets in Dom Square or Hellbrunn Castle – a traditional highlight that’s sure to get you in the festive mood.
