An archipelago of 83 islands, most of Vanuatu s islands are mountainous and volcanic in origin. With seven active volcanos on land and two underwater, the most popular one to visit is the world s most accessible volcano, Mount Yasur on the island of Tanna. Walk to the rim and peer into the fiery crater or visit it at night-time when the red glow of erupting ash and rocks looks particularly spectacular against the darkened sky.
