The charming city of Cusco is a cosmopolitan city that offers an exciting blend of indigenous and Latin American culture.
Also known as the “Kathmandu of Peru”, it’s not just the spectacular surrounding scenery not unlike the Himalayas that gives it this title but the fact the mountains and all they contain are what makes this city such a tourist mecca.
The former capital of the Inca Empire, it is the oldest continuously inhabited city in South America and the heart of the city is, without a doubt, its delightful Plaza de Armas. Mainly pedestrianised streets surround the main square, some changing little over the centuries. A great place to grab some souvenirs, there are some lovely churches and cathedrals in and around the square worth visiting and some great restaurants and cafes where you can sample the local cuisine including guinea pig.
