The internal air network in Africa is fairly comprehensive and can be the safest and most efficient way of travelling around the large country. Car hire can be expensive with high insurance excess though renting a car in South Africa is relatively cheap. There are train and bus networks throughout Africa depending on where you want to travel to, though don t expect the same standard you would get in Australia and avoid the touts at the stations.
