Home to some of the most picture-perfect beaches in the world, a holiday on the Maldives offers everything you’d expect from a tropical island escape. Located in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean just beneath India, the Maldives is an archipelago of 1,190 islands grouped into a collection of 26 tiny atolls. Renowned for their remarkable corals and colourful marine life, only 200 of the islands are inhabited by people.
Picturesque weather
The Maldives have a tropical climate with a year-round average of 24-30 degrees Celsius. Winter is from May to October with the monsoon season between June and July. Summer, from November to April, is dry and hot with light breezes.
Tasty food
The food in the Maldives has influences from Southern India and Sri Lanka. Seafood and vegetables are local and plentiful while meat and fruit is usually imported.
There's something for everyone
With deep blue seas, lush tropical vegetation, beaches fringed with swaying palm trees, crystal clear waters and a colourful underwater world – you can laze about in the sun or take part in the many water sports and activities available. Activities include surfing, island-hopping daytrips, big game and night fishing and land-based sports.
The snorkelling and diving is a highlight with abundant marine life and wreck and reef dives. While the Maldives are best known as a preferred destination for Australian honeymooners, they have plenty of activities to entertain family members of every age.
