Journey Beyond has announced two groundbreaking initiatives set to transform luxury tourism: the launch of ultra-luxury train suites across its iconic rail services and the management of Monarto Safari Resort, an immersive wildlife retreat in South Australia.

Scheduled to debut in 2026 and 2025 respectively, these projects highlight Journey Beyond’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and delivering unparalleled guest experiences.

Redefining Luxury Rail Travel: The Australis and Aurora Suites

Journey Beyond Unveils Ultra-Luxury Travel in Australia

From April 2026, Journey Beyond’s renowned trains—The Ghan, Indian Pacific, and Great Southern—will introduce two ultra-luxury suites: the Australis and Aurora. Designed to set a new global standard in rail hospitality, these suites offer an elevated travel experience defined by generous space, bespoke amenities, and meticulous craftsmanship.

The Australis Suite, the most luxurious offering in Australian rail history, is three times the size of a Platinum cabin. It features a private bedroom with a fixed queen-sized bed, a full lounge area, a personal bar, and an ensuite equipped with a double vanity and premium Jurlique amenities.

Meanwhile, the Aurora Suite, which is twice the size of a Platinum cabin, combines comfort with refined sophistication, featuring a spacious lounge, ensuite, and exclusive in-suite services. Both suites focus on privacy and elegance, creating a “moving sanctuary” for guests journeying across Australia’s breathtaking landscapes.

Design Excellence: Blending Art Deco with Australian Landscapes

Global design firm Woods Bagot has masterfully infused the suites with an authentic Australian identity, harmonising art deco elegance with elements inspired by the nation’s pastoral heritage.

Rosina Di Maria, Principal at Woods Bagot, explains, “Australian luxury is characterised by quiet confidence, quality, comfort, and attention to detail.” Interiors showcase custom timber accents, stone masonry, iron filigree, and subtle nods to wool merchants through sheepskin and saddle leather details.

With coved ceilings and decorative cornices adding a timeless touch, the suites also boast expansive windows that frame Australia’s ever-changing scenery. “The design captures the essence of the outback,” says Di Maria. “It’s about creating a sense of place—where the journey itself becomes part of the narrative.”

Unparalleled Amenities and Personalised Service

Guests of the Australis and Aurora Suites will indulge in Champagne Bollinger La Grande Année, a curated selection of premium Australian wines, and a personalised in-suite bar restocked daily. A dedicated butler provides tailored service, including an exclusive unpacking service and in-room dining. Off-train experiences, such as private tours and sunset canapés in the Outback, further enhance the journey.

David Donald, Journey Beyond’s Executive General Manager of Rail, highlights the transformative nature of the suites: “These spaces are not just cabins—they’re a place to unwind, celebrate, and host loved ones. The Australis Suite even includes a writing desk and wardrobe, inviting guests to linger in comfort.”

Monarto Safari Resort: A Sanctuary of Wildlife and Luxury

In addition to its rail innovations, Journey Beyond will oversee Monarto Safari Resort, opening in May 2025. Situated within Monarto Safari Park’s Wild Africa precinct, the resort seamlessly blends luxury accommodations with immersive wildlife experiences. Guests can observe southern white rhinos, cheetahs, giraffes, and more from their rooms or during guided safaris across 550 hectares of open plains.

With 78 hotel rooms, 20 luxury tents, a world-class spa, thermal plunge pools, and conference facilities, the resort redefines the concept of an upscale wildlife retreat. Gerry Ryan OAM, the resort’s owner, states, “Journey Beyond’s expertise in remote tourism ensures this will be a destination where conservation meets indulgence.”

Conservation and Sustainability at the Heart of the Experience

Aligned with Journey Beyond’s “Journey Lightly” philosophy, the resort is committed to wildlife preservation. A portion of each stay contributes directly to Monarto Safari Park’s conservation initiatives, focusing on protecting endangered species. Elaine Bensted, CEO of Zoos South Australia, commends the partnership: “This collaboration ensures guests contribute directly to safeguarding biodiversity while enjoying an unforgettable escape.”

From dawn safaris in custom-built vehicles to sundowner drinks overlooking watering holes, the resort offers curated experiences for every type of traveller. Families, couples, and corporate groups can customise their stay, whether seeking adventure or relaxation. David Donald adds, “It’s more than a hotel—it’s a gateway to wild Africa in the heart of South Australia.”

Supporting Wildlife Preservation Through Tourism

By integrating eco-tourism with luxury, Journey Beyond reinforces its commitment to protecting Australia’s natural heritage. As Chris Tallent asserts, “Our projects are rooted in respect for people, place, and planet. Every experience we design must honour that commitment.”

Conclusion: Elevating Australian Tourism to Global Heights

With the Australis and Aurora Suites redefining rail travel and Monarto Safari Resort blending luxury with conservation, Journey Beyond solidifies its position as a leader in experiential tourism. These innovations not only cater to discerning travellers but also promote sustainable tourism, ensuring Australia’s unique landscapes and wildlife are preserved for future generations.
