LATAM Airlines, South America’s largest airline group, enters 2020 with an expanded presence in Australia. In late 2019, LATAM introduced a new direct route between Sydney and Santiago which provides double-digit growth in capacity from Australia, year on year.

The new non-stop flights operate three times weekly, with departures from Sydney on Monday, Thursday and Saturday and a journey time of 13 hours and 15 minutes.

The Sydney service, which launched on 28 October 2019, complements LATAM’s non-stop service between Santiago and Melbourne, which it launched in October 2017. The Melbourne service operates three times weekly, with departures on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and a journey time of 12 hours and 55 minutes.

The Melbourne route is the only non-stop connection between Melbourne and Santiago, as well as the only direct connection between Melbourne and South America. The direct routes from Sydney and Melbourne have significantly reduced travel time, helping to support the growth of tourism and commerce between the two regions.

Passengers flying with LATAM en route to South America experience the state-of-the-art design and technology of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, providing greater comfort, security, and efficiency. The aerodynamics of the 787-9 incorporates technology that reduces the impact felt by the passenger due to turbulence and the unique pressurisation of the cabin results in the reduction of headaches or other symptoms a passenger might experience when flying, allowing travellers to arrive fresh at their destination.

Premium Business Class on board the LATAM 787-9 offers superior services, entertainment and features, including larger auto-dimming windows, dynamic lighting, more storage space at ground level as well as spacious seats with six-way adjustments, including reclining and full-flat positions for optimum rest.

LATAM’s Premium Business Class and Premium Economy Class inflight menu has been carefully crafted by a panel of renowned South American chefs with a perfectly paired wine list selected by Hector Vergara, Latin America’s only Master Sommelier, allowing passengers to begin an authentic South American experience the moment they step on board.

Recognised as the leading airline group for a sixth consecutive year in the ‘World’ category of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, LATAM considers its economic, social and environmental practises as a crucial part of its offering. It is the only airline group in the Americas and one of three worldwide to be part of the index. For LATAM, this means advocating for sustainable tourism and supporting relief efforts across South America.

As well as the non-stop services from Sydney and Melbourne to Santiago, Chile, LATAM also offers onward connections to 124 destinations in South America, including favourites such as Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Bolivia.

There has never been a more exciting and easier time to discover the diverse destination that is South America, home to rich cultures, stunning landscapes, historical sites and many bucket list trips.
